CityDesk 2.0-Documentation
Creating HyperlinksTo create a hyperlink:
Type the text you want to appear as the hyperlink and select it. (If you don't do this, CityDesk will automatically insert the name of the target of the link as the text for the hyperlink).
Click on the hyperlink tool (
) or choose Insert » Link. There are two keyboard shortcuts for this: Ctrl+L, as in Link, or Ctrl+K, as in Knight.
There are three kinds of links you can insert.
1. For a link to another CityDesk article or file:
Choose the article or file from the drop down list and click Insert.
Note: These links appear as relative links when your site is published. For absolute links, either create a link to an external URL, or use the withAbsoluteLinks statement in CityScript.
2. For a link to an external URL, that is, a URL that is not within your CityDesk site, such as http://www.yahoo.com:
Click on the To an External URL radio button, type the URL in the edit box, and click Insert.
3. For a link to the same article as you are editing:
Click on the From the teaser or headline to the main article radio button and click Insert.
This will simply insert [[ in front of the text and ]] after it. When CityDesk publishes the article, these will be replaced with a link to this article itself. Use this when you want a few words from the teaser or headline to link to the article. See Linking from Contents to the Article for more details.
For a "mailto" link which generates a message to an email address, choose external URL and specify the URL in the format mailto:username@example.com. Be careful, this can be guaranteed to generate quite a bit of spam for poor Mr. Username, because spammers favorite thing to do is to hunt for mailto links on the Internet and bombard them with spam. It's a sorry state of affairs.
When you type a URL or email address while editing, CityDesk automatically converts it to a hyperlink.
If you check the Link Appears In New Browser Window checkbox, the link will cause a new web browser window to appear when you click it. (We suggest that you use this feature sparingly, if at all, for it can be confusing to people who visit your site.)
To remove a link:
Click on any part of the linked text
Click on the hyperlink tool (
) or choose Insert » Link.
Click on the Remove Link button.
Keyboard fans can memorize the shortcut: Ctrl+K, Alt+R.
