Creating a New Article

Each CityDesk article  becomes a single page on your web site when it is published. During publishing, each article is combined with its template to create the final HTML page.

To create a new article:

*  Select the folder where you want the article to be created, or select an article that is right above where you want the new article to be created.

*  Choose File » New » Article.

You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+N or click on the New Article tool in the toolbar:

*  Type a name for the article and press Enter. Do not put .html on the end of the name; that will be added automatically when you publish.

As a convenience, the name you type will also become the initial headline for the article. After that, if you rename the article, the headline won't change. Use the Properties Tab to change the headline.

The article name is not the same as the article headline. Usually the article name is a short, memorable name for your own convenience, while the article headline is an actual headline that will appear when the article is published. To edit the article headline, use The Properties Tab.

When CityDesk publishes the article to your web site, it will be combined with a template. The final name of the file on your web site will be based on the article name, with minor changes (readHow Article Names Become URLs for details).

If you want to move the article up or down, use Ctrl+U (up) or Ctrl+D (down), or drag it to a new location with the mouse. See Manipulating the Site Tree. You can also rename the article by selecting the article and pressing F2.
