Multiple Users Collaborating on CityDesk Sites
When you use CityDesk, multiple users can edit the same CityDesk site at the same time.
For multiple users to work on the same CityDesk site at the same time, they will all need to be able to access the same file over Windows File Sharing.
If all the users are located on a LAN, you can put the CityDesk file up on a file server or use Windows built-in file sharing from any computer.
If your users are not located on the same LAN, you will need to connect them with a virtual private network so that they all have access to the same file server. This works best when each user has a fast Internet connection such as DSL, Cable Modem, or a direct T1 internet connection. A dial-up modem is too slow for this kind of work.
If you need to connect users without LAN access or with slow connections over modems, your best bet is to set up a PC with some kind of remote desktop connection software so that each user connects to that PC over the Internet and remote-controls that PC. Some examples of remote desktop connection software include:
Microsoft Windows XP Remote Desktop Connection
Microsoft Windows Terminal Services
GotoMyPC.com
PC Anywhere
VNC
If each user works on a different area of the site, you may be better off splitting the site into multiple CityDesk files. Give each user their own file and have it publish to their own subdirectory on the main web site. This way you do not need to allow multiple users to access the same file at the same time.
