Keyboard Navigation

One of the new features in 5.0 coming out is full keyboard navigation for the FogBugz interface.  I've been using it for so many months now that I can't imagine what I did before we had this.

Anyone who uses FogBugz to answer customer email will find this new feature indispensable.  Replying to email only takes a few keystrokes.  Combined with snippets, sometimes I'll actually write a whole entire email with 10 keystrokes, including a complete answer and a signature.

You don't even have to remember what the shortcuts are... you can learn them as you use them.  Hitting the engagement key (alt-semicolon) pops up little reminders all over the screen for which keys will make things happen.

Once the hints are up, you just press that key and the shortcut will happen.  For example, if we wanted to view the list page, I would hit alt-; and then just the letter L.  (For pages that have lots of shortcuts, you can hit the engagement key a few times to cycle through all the available shortcuts or as shown in the above case, you can hit the 2 key to show the second level of shortcuts.)

Replying to an email becomes: alt-; y <response to message> alt-; q
Assigning a case becomes: alt-; a j <first letter of person's name> enter alt-; o

That may seems kind of confusing when I type it out like that, but when I do it in FogBugz it feels very natural.  Along with the new asynchronous submission of a lot of information, it allows FogBugz to respond immediately to whatever you want to do.  No more waiting for the page to reload every time you choose an action.
