Sales Manager

This position has been filled.

Fog Creek Software, a small New York software company, has been growing steadily for seven years with only a rudimentary sales staff. Our award-winning products, FogBugz and Fog Creek Copilot, are favorites with software developers around the world, who have beaten a path to our website and who usually buy software themselves without much human contact.

If you’re an experienced Sales Manager, you’re going to be excited about this job opportunity. We’ve been growing by leaps and bounds–our sales are up tenfold in the last five years. We’ve never had an organized sales team so we’re probably missing more sales opportunities than we’re hitting. We need you to help us fix that. We’re building a new inside sales department which will operate from our offices in New York City, primarily by phone and email.

Our sales approach is strictly “win-win”: we don’t want customers who aren’t extremely happy with our products, and we expect complete honesty and ethical behavior in everything we do. We have a strict policy of giving customers their money back if they are not completely satisfied.

We already have a huge number of smaller customers around the world, but getting into larger accounts will require a better sales process to follow up, explore new leads, and pursue the hundreds of leads already coming into the company every week.

We need you to help us build that department and take us to the next level. We’re a small company, so your responsibilities will be diverse and can change from day to day, but will include:

  • Recruiting and hiring the sales team
  • Developing and executing a sales strategy for growth of Fog Creek’s products
  • Setting and maintaining a compensation plan
  • Training, mentoring, and coaching sales reps, including some who may be completely new to selling
  • Developing sales goals and targets, and monitoring progress towards those goals
  • Together with the Fog Creek executive staff, developing appropriate reports and metrics to track progress
  • Helping the Fog Creek R&D teams understand customer needs and objections
  • Helping sales reps by sitting in on sales calls, monitoring and reviewing some calls, and helping with larger accounts
  • Being willing to roll sleeves up and help with front-line sales duties on days when incoming contacts are above normal

Requirements

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and good presentation skills
  • Ability to train and coach new sales professionals
  • Experience recruiting, reviewing, interviewing, and hiring sales professionals
  • Experience actively managing sales professionals, tracking their performance, and making corrections as necessary
  • Ability to project a positive sales attitude
  • Very people-oriented, friendly demeanor and personable nature.
  • Self started/self motivator
  • Strong knowledge of technology industry products, services, and sales tactics.
  • Strong organizational and planning, teamwork and customer support skills critical.
  • Bachelors degree, 4+ years of sales and 4+ years of sales management experience with substantial experience at all stages of the sales cycle
  • Experience selling software, web services, or other intangible and highly technical products
  • Proven track record exceeding sales quota selling business solutions with expertise in negotiating and closing
  • Proven ability in previous job.
  • Permanent legal right to work in the US

This position is based in our office in New York and does not require travel. No telecommuting.
