CityDesk 2.0-Documentation
Editing PicturesCityDesk has a very simple built-in picture editor for JPG and PNG pictures. (For other picture formats, you must use an external editor.) The built in picture editor can be used to:
- rescale a picture, to make it larger or smaller:
- crop a picture, to remove edges and make it smaller:
- rotate a picture in 90 degree increments:
- automatically improve the colors in a photograph:
To edit a picture:
Double click on the picture in the main window, or choose File » Open Item.
The picture will open in a window for editing.
If the picture is too large to see all at once, you can scroll, or use the View menu to adjust the zoom factor. The zoom factor doesn't actually resize the picture itself; it simply shows it smaller or larger on screen while you are editing. You can always see the picture the way it really looks by zooming to 100%.
To scale the picture:
Choose Edit » Scale.
Enter the desired width or height or percentage to scale the image. Whichever one you adjust, the other two values will be calculated automatically to keep the image the same shape. (We're fairly confident that you did not want to stretch out that picture of your mother in law to make her appear fat.)
Click OK.
To crop the picture:
Using the mouse, click and drag from the top-left to the bottom-right of the area you wish to crop out. Those parts of the picture outside your cropping area will be darkened temporarily so you can see what you're about to do.
Repeat this step until you are satisfied with the cropping.
Choose Edit » Crop.
To rotate the picture:
Choose Edit » Rotate » 90 Degrees Clockwise or Edit » Rotate » 90 Degrees Counterclockwise.
To improve the colors:
Choose Edit » Auto Color Adjustment
This will attempt to automatically adjust the colors in a photograph to be more lifelike. It works best on photographs that have had their colors distorted by scanners or digital cameras. It works a lot like the "Auto Levels" command in high end photo editing software.
If you are not happy with the changes, simply choose Edit » Undo (Ctrl+Z) or just don't save the picture.
Not every photograph will be improved by Auto Color Adjustment. For more detailed color correction, you'll have to use an external editor.
To save your changes:
Choose File » Save or press Ctrl+S.
To undo the last action:
Choose Edit » Undo or press Ctrl+Z.
You can only undo one action.
To close the editor:
Choose File » Close or press Ctrl+W.
