Publishing

To publish the current site to a web server:

*  Choose File » Publish

*  From the list of publish locations, choose the location where you wish to publish. To publish to multiple locations at the same time, hold down the Ctrl key and click on each location.

If you haven't set up a location yet, click Edit Locations to set one up. See Managing Publish Locations. You need to be in Designer Mode to modify the list of available publish locations.

*  To publish the site as it should appear today, choose the Publish for Today radio button. To publish the site as it would appear on another day, choose the Publish for radio button and enter a date.

Some articles in your site may not appear on all dates. (See Never Publish Before or After).

Normally, CityDesk tries to save time in publishing by only copying changed files to the server. This is done by means of a file called citydesk.xml which is stored on your web server and is used by CityDesk to figure out which version of each file is on the server.

*  In the event that the web server becomes out of sync, you can force CityDesk to copy all the files by choosing the Publish all files radio button.

*  Click Publish.

CityDesk will publish the site to your web server. If there are any errors, such as broken links or errors in CityScript code, they will appear in a box in the status window.

When everything is done, a button appears which lets you see your site.

*  To see the site in Internet Explorer, click on the Internet Explorer button.

*  To see the site in another web browser or some other program which is installed on your computer, click on the arrow next to Internet Explorer and choose it from the list. If it does not appear, choose Configure Menu. This will allow you to edit a list of web browsers and other viewer programs. See Testing in Other Web Browsers.

Shortcut:

*  Click on the Publish tool:

If you only have one publish location, this immediately begins publishing the site as it would appear today. If you have multiple publish locations, you will still have to choose a publish location.

Publishing a single article:

To save time, if you only want to publish a single article that has changed, open the article for editing and choose File » Save and Publish. This will publish all files but only one article. See Save and Publish.

Automatic Publishing:

CityDesk can be set up to publish your site automatically, either as a part of a more complex batch script, or as a regularly scheduled job. See Automatic Publishing.
